Treatments & Funding
Once diagnosed by a sleep physician, treatment options often include:
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP): A CPAP machine delivers a constant flow of air through a mask to keep the airway open during sleep.
Auto-Adjusting Positive Airway Pressure (APAP): A type of CPAP therapy that automatically adjusts the air pressure levels throughout the night based on individual breathing patterns to optimize treatment for sleep apnea.
Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP): Similar to CPAP but adjusts air pressure levels based on whether you’re inhaling or exhaling.
Oral Appliances: These devices reposition the lower jaw and tongue to help keep the airway open, typically used to treat mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Surgery: In some cases, surgery may be recommended to remove excess tissue blocking the airway.
The gold standard for treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea is CPAP
Funding for CPAP/ APAP/BiPAP Systems in Ontario
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers 75% of the cost for individuals diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea.
Under the ADP program, a portion of the ADP-approved price is funded, with the patient responsible for the remaining balance, known as a co-payment.
Social Assistance Recipients: If you receive benefits from Ontario Works (OW) or the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), ADP covers 100% of the ADP-approved price.
Extended Health Benefits: Most extended health benefit providers cover the co-payment at the time of purchase. Additionally, insurers typically pay for replacement masks, tubes, and filters regularly.
Regular replacement of CPAP equipment, such as masks and hoses, is crucial for maintaining effective therapy and ensuring a good night’s sleep. Our team will assist you throughout the process, including providing quotes to insurers.
